Edition #4 In Series.
Released in 2019.
Master’s Keep Cornerstone is the fourth release in the limited edition Master’s Keep series, and the oldest rye whiskey ever released by Wild Turkey. For this one-of-a-kind Limited Edition, Eddie Russell hand-picked and set aside a secret lot of his oldest and boldest rye whiskey barrels, all aged from 9 to 11 years, then leveraged his nearly four decades of experience to create a perfectly balanced spirit that showed off just what an American rye whiskey could be. Aromas of vanilla, black pepper, and toasted rye give way to cascading flavors of honey and baked apple before a long and lingering finish of spice and oak.
Process: 109 proof aged 9-11 years.
Tasting Notes:
Aroma: Warm vanilla, black pepper, and toasted rye.
Taste: Cascading flavors of honey and baked apple.
Finish: Remarkably crisp and clean, with long and lingering flavors of spice and oak.
"Wild Turkey’s oldest rye release to date may not win you over with a first impression, but will eventually succeed thanks to its complexity and interesting flavors." - Eric Hasman, Breaking Bourbon
"What can I say? Master’s Keep Cornerstone is the best modern Wild Turkey rye whiskey expression I’ve had to date. It’s a high-quality pour – but – it’s not the end-all, be-all of Wild Turkey limited editions. Not even close. " - Rare Bird 101
"The nose is full of aromas such as apple skins, sweet vanilla, and gentle barrel spices. There's a touch of char smoke as well. Moving on to the taste, the rye is tangy with a bit of chewiness. Leather, cinnamon, and a touch of orange peel are added to the flavors found on the nose. The finish is on the tart and bitter side. A tasty rye and one that will please those that prefer their whiskeys to be on the bittersweet rather than the full on sweet side. Another classic from Wild Turkey." - Stephanie Moreno, Distiller (93 Points)
"It’s altogether a classic example of well-aged rye — though note that the experience doesn’t come cheap." - Christopher Null, Drinkhacker (90 Points)
"There is really nothing like a well-aged rye. The balance of sweet oaky vanilla and rye spice creates an experience that is both familiar and alien at the same time. Luckily given its high price tag, Cornerstone checks all the boxes that I look for in this style of whiskey while wearing its Wild Turkey punchiness on its sleeves. Although expensive, this limited release Rye Whiskey is a bottle that’s worth the price tag." - Whiskey Consensus (90 Points)
"A delightfully complex nose of vanilla, hot cross buns and bakery shop, cherries, coconut, raisins, figs, licorice, old leather, and hay barn. A smooth, viscous palate offers lemon honey, fragrant oak, cigar ash, dark berries, and more coconut. Spicier notes emerge with water, while the finish offers rich smoothness, with spiciness, chocolate-covered coconut, tobacco, and bitter herbs. Lots of depth and complexity. A great whiskey to enjoy with a cigar." - David Fleming, Whisky Advocate (93 Points)
