With a decade of age, both our bourbon and rye reveal amplified flavor profiles as the bold spice of the grains gives way to the deep, rich influence of oak. Each bottle is built on a foundation of consistent technique and a fearless approach to doing things the right way from the very beginning. These releases are a reward for the early risks we took when we were trusted to experiment, to lead with quality, and to follow our instincts. A decade later, our whiskey is speaking for itself and providing an exciting glimpse into the future of New Riff.
Tasting Notes:
Nose: Cinnamon coffee cake and stewed fruits, subtle mint, cigar box and wood spice.
Taste: Thick and juicy Cherry Cola, fruit leather, well structured with tannic rye and oak spice.
Finish: Rich, long and dry pepper and wood, with a lingering warmth.
"The palate does in fact break through some of those aromatic walls, but time in glass is your friend here. (As well, I’d insist on some water, given the 60%+ abv.) Chocolate and mint remain dominant, but they’re chased by Maraska cherry notes, which adds some sweetness. The whiskey takes on a brown butter and pie crust note from there, making its way to finishing notes of graham crackers and vanilla wafer cookies. Very late a hint of lemon peel comes into view. Throughout it all, however, that ample, charry punchiness persists. There’s just no getting around the maturity of the whiskey, for better or for worse. As it stands, I feel like this release is standing on the precipice of turning the corner into over-aged territory. So drink up!" - Christopher Null, Drinkhacker (90 Points)
