2025 Release
As the youngest component clocks in at an impressive 18-years-old, this is the oldest Weller ever bottled.
2001 Vintage Barrels (2.9%)
2003 Vintage Barrels (46.5%)
2006 Vintage Barrels (50.6%)
At the turn of the millennium, Buffalo Trace Distillery entered another era of transformation and looked to its heritage for inspiration. To honor W.L. Weller’s pioneering spirit, the distillation team set aside select whiskeys from the early 2000s with the vision of creating a once-in-a-generation release.
Weller Millennium is a rare blend of vintage straight bourbons and wheat whiskeys distilled in 2001, 2003 and 2006. Showcasing the defining role of wheat in bourbon-making, it delivers a softer, sweeter, and more approachable profile. By marrying these exceptional spirits, the final whiskey achieves remarkable harmony – greater than the sum of its parts.
Tasting Notes:
On the nose, there are rich caramel and toffee notes, indicating prolonged interaction with oak barrels that lead into an oak woodiness, with layers of depth and complexity from years of maturation.
Subtle but distinct hints of dried fruits, such as figs or raisins, and a touch of stone fruit can be found lingering throughout.
Sweet notes of caramel persist on the palate finishing with a prominent oak influence, imparting a subtle dryness and a lingering sense of refinement.
Reviews:
"Weller Millennium features one of the richer, more captivating noses I’ve encountered on any recent whiskey release (American or otherwise). That’s likely a testament to some of the highly-aged components and particular nuances of wheat as a highlight grain. The whiskey itself doesn’t taste quite as vibrant as it smells, and the oak influence becomes just slightly more drying than I would have liked... Overall, it’s a unique dram that’s difficult to compare to anything else on the market today. I do hope some of these bottles get opened and enjoyed — and I pray those with significant means will share the experience with others." - David Thomas Tao, VinePair (92 Points)
"Once you get past its polarizing and exorbitant price, Weller Millenium is a unique whiskey for the Buffalo Trace Distillery but not for why you’d expect it to be." - Jordan Moskal, Breaking Bourbon (Very Good)
"If you want to sip whiskey like it’s 1999, that is to say, if you want an ultra-aged expression that delivers a rich vintage profile then you’ve found the Weller for you. The price will likely give you pause, but Weller Millennium offers a more mature take on the prototypical Weller profile by displaying slight tweaks on the periphery which serve to elevate it on the whole. With a deft balance of flavors, an impressively distinct texture, and a deceptively lengthy finish, Weller Millennium is seemingly bottled at the perfect proof. Millennium’s decadence is only rivaled by William Larue in Buffalo Trace’s Weller stable, and it easily outpaces Daniel Weller as a sumptuous sipping experience." - Frank Dobbins III, Uproxx (90 Points)
"The whiskey, bottled at a high 99 proof, is almost like an older scotch, with unusually prominent (for American whiskey) notes of tropical fruit on the palate. These are complemented by other fruits like cherry and grape, along with a healthy dollop of dusty leather, tobacco, and dark chocolate. Oak and caramel intermingle on the finish, but the whiskey isn’t overly tannic. Again, this is a very different whiskey from the rest of the Weller lineup—as it should be, given that it’s not a blend with much older whiskey—but that’s a good thing, and it tastes appropriately old without falling into overly oaky territory." - Jonah Flicker, Robb Report
"Let’s cut to the chase—this is some really incredible whiskey. I had a pour of a 1983 101 proof Eagle Rare 10 Year earlier in the week, and I get similar “dusty” vibes in the Weller Millennium that I found in there. The antique oak and leather presence is fantastic, and while it has some dryness towards the end of the sip it really adds to the overall experience instead of turning into a negative. The way that the sweet notes transformed from rich, decadent desserts into a delicious candy-like sweet as the sip went on was super unique compared to pretty much every other whiskey I’ve tried, and the cinnamon spice was consistently present to balance the profile out. The nose is easily my favorite part of this, but the palate/finish wasn’t too far behind, and despite only being 99 proof this feels like a much heavier pour. Overall this is an incredible 9/10 on the t8ke scale." - /r/bourbon (
